TRAP BAD BOTS IN A VIRTUAL BLACKHOLE

You add to the robots.txt file a rule that makes bots stay away. Good bots will obey the rule, but bad bots will ignore it and follow the link... right into the black hole trap. Trapped bad bots are blocked and denied access to the entire site.
